Resetting Password

Running INB

Internet Native Banner (INB) requires installation of the Java Plug-in (JPI) for your web browser.  JPI was tested on Internet Explorer versions 7, 8, and 9. Internet Explorer is the recommended browser. Firefox may work, depending on the version.

Access INB at http://go.middlebury.edu/inb by clicking on the Production link.

Using INB - Basics, Toolbars, Shortcuts, etc

Installing the Java Plug-in for INB (Windows)

1.    If you use IE check to see if you are using the Pop-up Blocker:  Click the Tools menu and point to Pop-up Blocker.  If the submenu says Turn Off Pop-up Blocker then the pop-up blocker is in use.  If the Pop-up Blocker is used, to the following:

    a.    From the Tools menu select Internet Options.

    b.    Click the Security tab.

    c.    Select Trusted Sites and then click Sites button.PNG.

    d.    In the Add this Web site to the zone field type *.middlebury.edu and then click Add button.PNG.

    e.    Click Ok button.jpg on the Trusted Sites dialog box and then click Ok button.jpg  on the Internet Options dialog box.

2.    If you use IE check the browser security settings:

    a.    From the Tools menu select Internet Options.

    b.    Click the Security tab.

    c.    Select Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted Sites, and Restricted Sites, in turn and click Default level button.PNG for each.  Note:  On some computers you can click Reset all zones to default level button.PNG rather than selecting and resetting each zone.

    d.    Click Apply_Button on the Internet Options dialog box and then click Ok button.jpg to close.

3.    If you use IE check the File downloads setting:

    a.    Click the Security tab.

    b.    Click Custom level button.PNG_Button.

    c.    Under the Downloads heading select the Enable radio button for Automatic prompting for file downloads if it is not already enabled.

    d.    Click Ok button.jpg.  If you are prompted to confirm your change click Yes button.PNG.

    e.    Click [[Image:Apply_button.PNG on the Internet Options dialog box and then click Ok button.jpg to close.

4.    On some computers using IE you may have to disable the Reuse of windows for launching shortcuts setting:

    a.    From the Tools menu select Internet Options.

    b.    Click the Advanced tab.

    c.    If the Reuse windows for launching shortcuts option is checked, click to uncheck it.

    d.    Click Ok button.jpg on the Security tab and then click Ok button.jpg on the Internet Options dialog box to close.

5.    Disable toolbars like Windows Live Toolbar, Google Toolbar, Go Toolbar, MSN Toolbar, and any Adobe add-ons.

    a.    From the Tools menu select Manage Add-ons.

    b.    Select any suspected toolbar or Adobe add-on and then click the Disable radio button.  The add-on will be moved to the Disabled list.

    c.    Do steps a and b for each toolbar or add-on.

    d.    When finished, click Ok button.jpg.

7.    In the address field of your browser type go.middlebury.edu/inb?prod and then press Key Enter.PNG.

8.    Start the installation:

    a.    Click on the yellow bar that says Click here to install (under the browser toolbars and at the top of the display area) and select Install Active X.

    b.    Click Install button.PNG.

    c.    Click Accept button.PNG.

    d.    Click Finish button.PNG.

9.A browser window should open with the INB login dialog scripts. Log into INB with your Banner INB username and password.

Troubleshooting Browser Connection Issues

While other browsers may display many INB forms properly, Internet Explorer (versions 7, 8 and 9) are most widely tested, and should therefore be used when possible.

Troubleshooting Banner INB with Internet Explorer Problems

Below is an outline of the proper triage and corrective measures to resolve INB/IE problems.  These steps should be performed in the order presented here.Pop-up-settings.PNG

  1. Pop-up Blocker Exception list - if there is a pop-up blocker in IE make sure that *.middlebury.edu is in the Exceptions list. 

        a.     From the Tools menu of Internet Explorer point to Pop-up Blocker, then select Pop-up Blocker Settings.

        b.     If *.middlebury.edu is not in the Allowed Sites list, type *.middlebury.edu in the Address of Web site to allow Add button.PNG.

        c.     Close the IE browser and restart it -- did the problem go away?

  1. Google Toolbar and other browser plug-ins -

Does IE have extra toolbars such as Yahoo, Hot Bar and Go Search?  If so, uninstall them.

        a.     Trace the menu path Windows_Start_Button | Settings | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs.  This page takes a few seconds to populate.

        b.     Select the toolbar software to be removed and click Remove button.PNG.

         c.   After removal, close and open new IE Browser - did problem go away?

  1. Tools - Manage Add-ons: Disable all add-ons, not just those that provide toolbars - even the Adobe PDF add-ons may be problematic.

        a.    In IE, from the Tools menu select Manage Add-ons.

        b.    Select add-ons from the list then click the Disable radio button.

        c.    Click[[Image:Ok_button.jpg when all add-ons have been disabled.

  1. Create and use desktop shortcuts to links below, rather than opening browser window first. http://go.middlebury.edu/inb?prod and http://go.middlebury.edu/hyperion?prod

         a.    Right-click on your desktop and point to New on the pop-up menu, then select Shortcut from the submenu.

         b.    In the Type the location of the item field for the shortcut type the links exactly as they appear below including the quotation marks.

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://go.middlebury.edu/inb?prod  and "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://go.middlebury.edu/hyperion?prod

        c.    Click Next button.PNG.

        d.    In the Type a name for this shortcut field enter a name such as INB Prod.

        e.    Click Finish button.PNG.

  1. Reset Security options in Internet Explorer:

        a.    From the Tools menu select Internet Options.

        b.    Click the Security tab.

        c.    Select the security zone the IE Browser is running the INB product in - you can determine this zone by looking at the bottom status bar of IE Browser when in INB main page - it will say, "Internet", "Local Intranet", Trusted", etc

        d.    Click Default level button.PNG to reset it to baseline. 

        e.    Click Apply button.PNG.

        f.    Click Ok button.jpg.

        g.    Open a new browser and see if INB issue was corrected.
