Johnson 414 Lab
The Plotter will likely be on and the computer logged in, but if not:
- 1. Choose "Architecture Student" on the touch screen monitor
- 2. Enter password displayed on wall behind monitor.
For the Plotter and Scanner, it is recommended that you use a flashdrive to directly transport files and images. The touch-screen monitor is not connected to the internet.
How to use the Plotter
The Plotter is a Canon Symquest IPF760; its OS is Smartworks MFP V3.
Make sure your document is saved in a format that transfers well, such as PDF or JPEG. DO NOT try to plot Photoshop (.psd) or Illustrator (.ai) as these are large files and can take up to an hour for the plotter to process.
- Insert flashdrive with document saved in back of touchscreen monitor.
- Open "Smartworks MFP" and press "Advanced Print".
- Choose the picture of the USB drive next to <Select File>, and locate your file on the screen that pops up.
- If your document needs to be smaller or larger, change under the "Scale" menu. Be careful with %!
- The "Print Priority" menu generally does not need adjustment, but you can choose to change it: the printer can focus on Image, Line Drawing, or Office.
- You can preview your print by making sure that the Preview Mode button has a YELLOW circle in the upper left corner. Press the green button (Don't worry, it won't print yet!).
- In this screen, you can adjust size, crop your image, and more.
- Press the green diamond to print.
- If you do not want to preview, make sure the Preview Mode button has a GRAY circle in the upper left corner. Press the green button to print.
How to use the Scan function on the Plotter
- Insert flashdrive in the back of touchscreen monitor.
- Open "Smartworks MFP" and press "Advanced Scan".
- Put image into vellum folder if scanning a non-printed surface (line drawing). Bring vellum folder to scanner and insert towards the right side: the scanner will sense the vellum and hold it in place (You can let go once it does!).
- Choose icon of USB for saving location. Rename file now. Under "File Type", generally use PDF or JPEG (for other options see 'File Type' drop-down menu).
- Scan Preset:
- Color Graphics is for color images.
- Gray Photo/Lines will take color out of image, add shades of gray.
- BW/Cleanup is pure black and white (no grayscale). If you're scanning a pencil drawing this is often the best option.
- Paper Size:
- Autosize is for images which are pre-saved at its original dimensions.
- Other options like A2, A4, B4 are commonly-used sizes which might be helpful to you for consistency.
- You can preview your print by making sure that the Preview Mode button has a YELLOW circle in the upper left corner. Press the green button (Don't worry, it won't scan yet!).
- In this screen, you can adjust size, crop your image, and more.
- Press the green diamond to scan.
- Make sure 'Batch Mode' does not have a yellow circle in upper left corner. ('Batch Mode' is for scanning multiple documents in one go).
- If you do not want to preview, make sure the Preview Mode button has a GRAY circle in the upper left corner. Press the green button to scan.
