Many resources and services are available from off campus.
There are several different methods for accessing these resources; look through the options below and choose the one that is right for you.
VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a way to simulate being on campus, with full access to most campus resources, with the exception of library subscription e-resources. (For these, use the library website links and EZproxy method). Most computers can use the instructions below:

Access Library Databases and Journals
The Library supports off-campus access to our electronic resources for active students, faculty, and staff. Library subscription content is accessible from the Library homepage and research librarians may be contacted at go/askus/.
Access Cloud Storage on OneDrive or Google Drive
Files stored in Middlebury's cloud accounts are readily accessible using a web browser on any networked device without need of VPN:

Access File Servers using a Web Browser (Nasuni Web Access)
This service allows you to access files on Middfiles and Miisfiles without the need for VPN. You can easily view, download, and upload files. Visit http://go.middlebury.edu/webaccess.
Remote Desktop Access
Remote Desktop Access is used primarily by staff and faculty to gain access to a computer on campus, and should be used only when the computer is in a secure location.
These instructions show you how to access and use a computer that's on-campus, while you are physically off the college campus. For general information on remote desktop connections, see Remote Desktop Connection.
- Record the name of the computer, since you'll be using this to connect to it. The name can be obtained by right-clicking on "My Computer" and selecting "Properties", then clicking on the "Computer Name" tab.
- Ask the Helpdesk to add you to the list of users on that computer that's allowed to access it remotely. You can do this by calling x2200 or an email.
- Ensure the computer that remains on campus is turned on and is connected to the college's wired network. If the computer is off or not connected to the network at the time when you try to connect to it, you'll just see an error message.
- From an off-campus location, establish a VPN connection
- Open Microsoft's "Remote Desktop" program (Start => Programs => Accessories => Remote Desktop Connection
- In the window that appears, enter the name of the computer that's on campus
- Login with your own credentials. (If there's anyone else logged in, you will be prompted to "log this person off" which kicks them off the computer.)
