Submitting NIH Grant Forms

  • The only required software is Adobe Reader. Internet Explorer is recommended. Acrobat Pro can also be used, but it is not required.
  • The NIH application package is a PDF file that’s fully designed to be filled out with Adobe Reader.
  • It’s required to submit certain documents (like resume/CV, etc) as attachments to the application. It’s required that these attachments be in pdf format. Most likely our faculty will have these documents in Word format.
    • Macs can convert Word documents to PDF out of the box, easily and for free.
    • PCs can install free software that will allow them to convert Word document to PDF easily and for free. The grants website actually gives a nice overview of the options for that right here: http://www.neh.gov/grants/grantsgov/pdf.html
  • NIH has a detailed troubleshooting section: http://www.grants.gov/help/trouble_tips.jsp#4 – this page is likely to resolve all problems one might have. All in all the two grants websites (this: http://www.neh.gov/grants/guidelines/fellowships.html and this: http://www07.grants.gov/help/help.jsp ) should be sufficient resource to answer all questions.
