The following instructions provide a step by step guide to scanning 2D Hand Drawn Cell Animations.
  • Go to the computer in Axinn 002 that is connected to the Xsan (back left corner).
  • Turn on the power to the computer if it is not already on.
  • Turn on the power to the attached HP ScanJet 5590 scanner and verify that it is connected to the computer via USB.
  • Log in using your middlebury username and password.
  • Place your A4 paper into the automatic document feeder on top of the scanner. Do not place more than 50 sheets in at once.
  • Make sure that the image is facing up in the automatic document feeder and that the first image in the animation sequence is on top.
  • Push the button on the scanner with the icon that represents an image file. There is an arrow indicating the correct button to push.
  • A warning message pops up telling you that the Automatic Document Feeder is engaged. Select "OK".

  • If your animation is a landscape animation instead of a portrait animation Select File->Automate->Batch.

  • Choose Source: "Opened Files".
  • Choose Destination: "Folder" and select Xsan_Media->CourseName->YourName->ProjectName.
  • Make sure to leave the "Override Action "Save As" Commands UNCHECKED. Select "OK"
  • Launch Quicktime Pro.
  • Select File->Open Image Sequence.

  • Browse to Xsan_Media->CourseName->StudentName->ProjectName and select the first image file in the sequence. Choose "Open".
Locate Image Sequence
  • Select the desired framerate for the image sequence.
Choose Framerate
  • Select File->Save As.
Save Quicktime Movie
  • Browse to Xsan_Media->CourseName->YourName->ProjectName.
