Check your disk space in Mac OS X

You can check the capacity/free space of your main disk by following these steps:

  1. Click on your Desktop
  2. Click on the menu titled "Go" (top middle of the screen)
  3. Click "Utilities" (the Utilities folder will open)
  4. Double-click "Activity Monitor"
  5. In the Activity Monitor window click on the Disk Usage tab on the bottom. Details on the space free and space utilized will be displayed.

Check your disk space in Windows

  • Windows XP and earlier:
    • Open "My Computer" (by double-clicking on the My Computer icon on the desktop OR on the start menu).
    • Right-click your local disk C and select "properties", details about the disk space will be displayed on the 1st tab.
  • Windows Vista:
    • Click on the Start button (lower left corner), click on "Computer"
    • Right-click your local disk C and select "properties", details about the disk space will be displayed on the 1st tab.
