    • an available computer (the color of each computer indicates its status: Grey = Available; Blue = In-Use; Red = Powered off).
    • determine the location of printers and scanners
    • see the capacity (number of computers) in that location.
  • Click on (R25) next to each classroom to check the class schedule for that location. The R25 links give you the most up to date schedule for a particular space, as scheduled by the Events Management Office and Registrar's Office.
  • Click on [M] next to each classroom to find that location on Google Maps. You can also make use of the College's own interactive campus map.
  • General Hours of Operation are listed in the next section.
  • A list of all the software for each lab is here: go/software.

Public Labs (non-classroom spaces) with computers

These are spaces that are open to the College community but are outside classrooms. Typically, these spaces have carrels with computers. It is not possible to schedule these spaces - they are open and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Hours of operation

  • The schedule of our Libraries can be found here: go/lib?hours.
  • The computer lab in Sunderland 121 is open 24 hours.
  • In general, other buildings are open 7am - midnight .

Discontinued Academic Computers

  • Effective May 2011, the Music Library Carrel computers will be moved to the Davis Family Library, as part of the redesign of MCFA.
  • As of Spring 2010, due to combined low usage and decreasing funds, LIS has discontinued two computer labs/classrooms:

- Sunderland ILC1
- Sunderland ILC2

Note that ILC1 and ILC2 will become standard SMART classrooms, with multimedia projection and a podium/lectern computer, but there will be no computers for the students. The spaces have sufficient wired and wireless networking, as well as power outlets, if students need to bring their own computers.

With the renovation of Sunderland 202, we'd like to encourage our community to make use of that classroom instead of ILC1. Room 202 is more spacious and better furnished. We are also in the process of upgrading the computers in that space.

In Spring '09, a new Mac classroom/lab was unveiled - Axinn 105. This space has top of the line Mac computers with the latest video editing software, in addition to the standard Mac OS X applications. ILC2 has been severely underused for a number of years, and we think that the community would be best served by using the new space, Axinn 105, instead.

Availability of Academic and Public Computing Facilities

Scheduling Academic Computing Facilities (Classrooms)

Academic computing facilities are scheduled for course instruction by the Course Scheduling Office. For reserving a classroom for any other use, faculty, staff and student may contact the Event Scheduling Office. The web pages of these offices provide a better description of the guidelines for reserving academic spaces including computer classrooms. Note that the schedule/availability of each space is published on the Master Location Schedule. In this table we've also included direct links to the schedule for most popular computer classrooms.

Availability of Public Computers

Public computer facilities (e.g. Library carrel computers and Sunderland 121) are not available for reservation. These spaces are open when the respective building is open (exact times in this table) and are available on a first come, first serve basis to students, faculty and staff. Other patrons may use these spaces if they are available though may be asked to yield the space to students, faculty and staff.

Downtime of Academic and Public Computing Facilities

LIS reserves the right to perform maintenance on academic and public computing facilities any Sunday, between 3AM and 10AM, as well as anytime during the last weekend of the year. Other downtime may be scheduled during the academic year (including recesses), though this will be coordinated with the Offices of Course and Event Scheduling. Downtime is used for crucial updates to the hardware and software, as well as preventative maintenance.

Wireless Hotspots

Most College buildings have wireless access points. Coverage may vary, depending on the number of users and on the structure of the building. Click the map below for an overview of the College's wireless coverage. Please use the midd_secure wireless network, as it has higher bandwidth. midd_unplugged is meant for guests and has low bandwidth.

Notes and References

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 These locations are only available to LIS staff, with some exceptions. The locations are scheduled internally through LIS. Individuals may use these locations when there is nothing in schedule. The schedule is usually printed outside each location, around the plaque with the room number.
  2. 2.0 2.1 2.2 Kiosks, also known as "walkups", are computers that login automatically and offer limited web browsing capability, primarily for looking up library materials, and quick access to information. They are meant to be used for 5-10 mins at a time. Currently, it is not possible to print from these computers.
