If you arrive on campus at a loss on what is required of your computer, this is the page for you. Below is a checklist of things that could make integration with the Middlebury network go more smoothly.

These steps are simply recommended. Registration is the only necessary step for computer use on the midd network.
 
 
 
== Mac OS X  ==
 
 
 
*Make sure the computer is registered. Computers are able to use midd_unplugged and mdid_secure while unregistered.
 
 
 
:Call the registration portal by navigating to http://cmrc/registration
 
:Test the wireless and wired connection
 
 
 
*Set up midd_secure
 
*If you wish to install an antivirus:
 
**navigate to http://go.middlebury.edu/antivirus
 
**Make sure you are at the Sophos for Mac.
 
**Click on the link and follow instructions.
 
*If you need office check out a disk from the circulation desk and install it.
 
 
 
:Set up Entourage if you want to use it to read your Midd mail: http://go.middlebury.edu/docs -- see Entourage section<br>
 
 
 
*Install a secondary web-browser if non is present. Firefox 3 is a good option
 
*Connect to and add bookmarks/shortcuts to file servers.
 
 
 
== Windows ==

Only have one antivirus installed. Installing more than one may lead to system instability

*If MSOffice is required check it out at the circulation desk and install it.
 
 
 
:Set up Outlook as you Midd mail reader if you wish to.
