Commonly-used Print Servers are:

  • Walnut -- will eventually replace Bombay. Queues for printers having different Windows 7 compliant drivers and queues that support 64-bit windows will generally be created on Walnut.
  • Bombay --
  • Papercut --

Printer queues names typically start with a three-letter building abbreviation followed by a room number to indicate the printer's location.

Connect to Network Printers using Windows 7

  1. Press the Windows key + "R" to open the Run dialog box.
  2. In the Open field type \\walnut
  3. Click OK.
  4. Click once to select the desired printer. [If your printer is not listed, use \\bombay in step 2.]
  5. Right-click the highlighted printer then select Connect from the pop-up menu.
  6. Click the Install driver button for each printer you are adding if prompted.

Set Your Default Printer using Windows 7

If you have added more than one printer you should verify (and reset if necessary) the correct printer as the default printer you use most often.

  1. Click the Orb then select Devices and Printers.
  2. In the Printers and Faxes section right-click on the desired printer then select Set as default printer from the pop-up menu.

Connect To Network Printers Using Windows XP

  1. Click Start button.PNG.
  2. Select Run.
  3. In the Open field type \\server-name\queue-name where server-name is the name of the print server (bombay, in most cases, except for these printers on the Papercut server) & queue-name is unique for the printer (typically in the form of three-letter building abbreviation followed by room number; ex. \\bombay\LIB213 (note this is a printer that doesn't exist - it is only an example)).
  4. Click OK button.PNG.  The driver for the printer will be added to your computer and the printer will be added to your Printer and Faxes list of available printers.

The above steps will not work properly if the computer is a) not bound to the middlebury.edu domain (only should apply to college-owned computers) or b) is not logged in with a network account with printing privileges.

Uninstall Printers Using Windows XP

  1. Click Start button.PNG
  2. Select Control Panel (via Settings, if applicable)
  3. Open Printers and Faxes
  4. Right-click on the printer and select Delete from the pop-up menu.
  5. Click Yes2 button.PNG to confirm the deletion
  6. Close the Printers and Faxes window
