When Millennium is upgraded or when you have to reload it onto your computer, Arabic, Chinese, Russian/Cyrillic characters & diactirics often will not appear correctly in the Client or in public display of MIDCAT. Instead,the diacritics may show as small boxes. Here's how to fix.

Millennium CLIENT (Usually you can skip to #4 and go to that URL)

  1. Look at this documentation: http://csdirect.iii.com/documentation/diacrit.shtml " Downloading, Displaying, and Printing Diacritcs FAQ" (You'll need the CSDirect password -- check with Terry, Michael, or Richard if necessary)
  2. Look at the section "Diacritic Display"
  3. For Step 1, about Arial Unicode MS font," just check your drop-down list of fonts in Outlook or Word to see if you have this font installed already. If not, you may need to check the Help Desk.
  4. Proceed with 2-3: download a file called Innovative font.properties from CSDirect http://csdirect.iii.com/downloads/font.shtml. This is the file that Java programs consult to find out which font to use.
  5. The downloaded file will be called something like: fontcofig.xp.properties. You will copy it into this folder: C:\Millennium\jre\1.6.0_02\lib
  6. You should then see the diacritics displayed correctly (You may need to close Millennium and restart)


Internet Explorer

  1. In Internet Explorer, select: Tools -> Internet options -> Fonts
  2. Choose Arial Unicode MS as the web page font
  3. Click OK
  4. Click on Accessibility from the Internet Options box
  5. Ignore font styles specified on Web pages
  6. You should then see the diacritics displayed correctly

Firefox

  1. Click on Tools and then Options
  2. Click on Fonts and Colors and select Arial Unicode MS
