Hyperion can be found and installed best from Middfiles. Previously circulated instructions to force-load Hyperion by running a query (report) from Hyperion's Workspace should be avoided, as it typically takes 20 minutes to load using that method!

Hyperion is very picky about the version of Internet Explorer installed (it's a Windows-only program that needs Internet Explorer). As of 9/14/15, Internet Explorer version 11 is supported. Install the Interactive Reporting Web Client
In order to run Hyperion Reports you will need to install the latest Interactive Reporting Web Client (aka Hyperion Client). The Hyperion Client is built-into the standard Middlebury College image, therefore, normally it does not need to be installed (it's already there!). If a new version is available, it is distributed automatically. See the system requirements section above before attempting to install Hyperion manually.
Hyperion can be manually installed by following these instructions: Installing Hyperion Reporting. If you find that you have popup blockers in place, you will need to enable popups.
NOTE: If you are accessing Hyperion from anywhere other than ON CAMPUS, you MUST use a VPN client (Virtual Private Network) to create a secure connection. If you do not have a VPN client on your computer, please see VPN_Setup_on_Windows,_Mac_and_Linux.

Internet Explorer and Hyperion
Our current product version Hyperion EPM11 will run fine on Internet Explorer 8 and 9, but not on later versions.
Enable pop-ups in Internet Explorer to ensure Hyperion compatibility. Hyperion needs to open certain screens in a pop-up window, so you need to configure your browser to allow pop-ups for Hyperion. In brief:
- add *.middlebury.edu to the trusted sites
- add *.middlebury.edu to the list of allowed pop-ups

Hyperion troubleshooting & common problems
Most problems with Hyperion can be resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling the Hyperion Client.
- Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs

When I click to open a Hyperion report folder using IE 11, a different folder is opened
This issue can be resolved by restoring Internet Explorer 11's zoom setting to 100%. To do this, click the gear icon at the top right, then trace to Zoom and select 100%.
Hyperion client re-installs every time I log in =
In some cases, Internet Explorer won't "remember" the Interactive Web Reporting Client. As soon as you close Internet Explorer, the install will be erased and you'll have to wait a minute while the client re-installs next time you open Hyperion. While this is just an annoyance, the time involved can add up. To solve this problem:
- Close any Internet Explorer windows you have open right now.
- Open Internet Explorer and log on to Hyperion. Don't run a report yet.
- In the Hyperion menu bar, go to Tools -> Install -> Interactive Web Reporting Client.
- The Hyperion client installer should appear in a small pop-up window. Ignore it for the moment.
- Look carefully in the Internet Explorer window behind it, at the top, for a yellow bar that says something like "Internet Explorer has blocked an ActiveX control...". Click on this bar, then click on Run ActiveX control.
- IE will ask you if you are sure you want to run the installer. Click Run.
- Follow through with any other open dialog boxes, then you should be redirected back to the Hyperion login page.
- Log in again, and try running a report. If all works correctly, the installer won't appear and you'll be good to go.
Hyperion does not install under non-admin accounts
During the install process, Hyperion does not ask for admin rights; there's no indication that it needs them, the installer page just stays on "checking status". Temporarily granting admin privileges to the account resolves the problem. I had to install Hyperion under the account in question, while I could install it from our usual admin account, the account in question would not see the installation.
Hyperion Client refuses to install: problem with certificate
You can work around the certificate error by ensuring that Internet Explorer's settings are configured correctly:
- Open internet explorer, click Tools - Internet Options.
- Click the Security tab - Custom Level button.
- Under ActiveX options, ensure the following settings are set as follows:
- Run ActiveX and plug-ins - Enabled
- Download Signed ActiveX Control - Enabled
- Script ActiveX controls marked as safe for scripting - Enabled
- Download unsigned ActiveX Control - Prompt
- Initialize and script ActiveX controls not mark as safe - Prompt
- Click OK, then Apply, then OK.
- Close and restart the browser. You should now be able to install Hyperion from the website (go/hyperion).
For Helpdesk staff, there are instructions for installing from a direct server folder (for SRPs only).
Hyperion Runs But Reports Open in a Blank Grey Screen
If Hyperion was just installed, close the web browser and restart. If this does not resolve the issue then proceed to the following.
Cause: You may be trying to run Hyperion EMP11 with a higher version of Internet Explorer than is currently supported.
Solution: You will need to drop back to the highest supported version of Internet Explorer.
Other troubleshooting tips
If Hyperion still won't work, here are some things to try.
- Clear the SSL cache in Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer => Tools => Internet Options => click on the Content tab, then click "Clear SSL state").
- Check the date on the computer. If the date is incorrect, the computer may think that the certificate has expired. Correct the date and try again.
- Visit http://update.microsoft.com and review the optional updates. There may be a "root certificates" update that has not been installed. Reboot after installing that and try again.
- Clear temp files (Internet Explorer => Tools => Internet Options => on the main/general tab click "Delete Files" or "Delete" (when prompted put a checkmark next to "all files").
