Setup an iOS device to use Middlebury Wi-Fi (midd-secure & midd-standard)
One of the first things to do with an iOS device at Middlebury is to get it connected to our Wi-Fi networks. This enables the device to connect to the Internet, as well as on-campus-only resources. LIS strongly advises community members to use only the secured Wi-Fi networks, midd-secure and Midd-standard. Setup is simple, but you must be on-campus to do it!
midd-secure
midd-secure is the fastest and most secure Wi-Fi network on-campus. LIS recommends midd-secure as the first choice for Wi-Fi connectivity.
- From the Home screen of your iOS device, select Settings.
- From the Settings screen, select Wi-Fi.
- Make sure that Wi-Fi is ON, then select midd-secure from the Choose a Network... list.
- At the prompts, enter your Middlebury credentials: username and password and then select Join.
- If all went well, your iOS device is now connected to midd-secure!
Midd-standard
Midd-standard is another option for fast and secure Wi-Fi access on-campus. Midd-standard is not as fast (nor as secure) as midd-secure, however all that is needed to connect to Midd-standard is a shared key, readily available through the LIS Helpdesk at x2200.
- From the Home screen of your iOS device, select Settings.
- From the Settings screen, select Wi-Fi.
- Make sure that Wi-Fi is ON, then select Midd-standard from the Choose a Network... list.
- At the Password prompt, enter the shared key that you were given by the LIS Helpdesk and then select Join.
- If all went well, your iOS device is now connected to Midd-standard!
midd_unplugged
midd_unplugged is an unsecured Wi-Fi network for guests. Don't use it. (see notes below)
LIS Admin Notes
- LIS promotes the secure and responsible use of the services that we provide to the Middlebury community. Using an unsecured Wi-Fi connection puts you at risk of having your unencrypted data intercepted while in transit. Play it safe, stay on midd-secure or Midd-standard.
