Downloading MARC records from online site (like Oxford)

Edit/Prepare records via MarcEdit

  1. Download file from Vendor/publisher website: Usually you have the option to Open or Save with Marcedit. You save a step or two by choosing "Open with MarcEdit."
  2. Using MarcEdit once opened:
  • Choose MarcEdit output file: click Browse, choose location to download, then name file & save
  • Back to MARC tools windwo, click Execute. Close. Saves as MARC text file (using mrk extension). This will allow you to view records and make changes.
  • Go to downloaded file and click  to open
  • If necessary, make changes to records, using:
• From top toolbar, choose Tools/AddDelete fields, etc. (e.g., 655 Electronic books). From this same menu you can also edit subfields and indicators.
• From top toolbar, chooseEdit/FindReplace, etc. (856 ezproxy prefix)
  • Next, change file format from mrk to mrc:
• From top toolbar, choose File/Compile file into MARC
• Give file a name & save
• Creates/saves on desktop with mrc extension

Use Millennium Data Exchange

  1. On the left menu Millennium Client toolbar, click Data Exchange icon
  2. Click Get PC file location; then select mrc (not mrk) file. Click Upload
  3. For "Accepted suffix", choose: lfts. Click OK
  4. Back at main results list, highlight file & click Prep icon at top menu
  5. At next screen, click Start button. Output message will hopefully show no errors. Should be same number of input records as output records
  6. Click Close. This saves file as type lmarc
  7. Highlight lmarc file
  8. Click Load A (EAM file). You  may want to click Test first. Also, before you do this step, you may need to alert Barbara Merz to change the item record template that this Load table points to.
  9. Select Load: Load records via locally created load profiles
  10. Check records in Millennium.
