My Laptop Won't Start

Simple steps to try if your laptop won't boot

Windows/PCs

  1. Try holding down the power/reset button for 8-10 seconds.
  2. Release the power/reset button.
  3. Press the power button to turn the laptop on.
  1. If it still doesn't respond:
  2. Remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter,
  3. Press and hold the power/reset button for 8-10 seconds.
  4. Plug in the AC adapter (check that there is some indication that the laptop is getting power. This will vary depending on the make and model. Most laptops have some sort of power light.)
  5. Try holding down the power/reset button for 8-10 seconds.
  6. Release the power/reset button.
  7. Press the power button to turn the laptop on.
  8. Note: If this doesn't work, try re-inserting the battery and repeating steps 4-6.
  9. Contact the Helpdesk if the issue recurs.
