Optical Character Recognition - OCR Software
Re: OCR software
Microsoft Office 2003 and above for PC/Windows (included on all our public labs) has an option for OCR, known as "Microsoft Office Document Imaging". You can feed it a TIF file and it has an OCR option under Tools. On a Mac you can use Preview to convert most any file into a TIF file (File => Save As). A more detailed guide for performing OCR with Microsoft Office Document Imaging is available here: OCR_Using_Microsoft_Office_Document_Imaging.
Unfortunately all of the licenses for other OCR software have expired. By June 15th we should receive one license for Read Iris Pro. It will be installed on a computer in the Wilson media lab (LIB220).
There are a few on-line OCR solutions, but we haven't tried and we can't vouch for them. Here's a list:
You can also decide to purchase an OCR solution with personal or departmental funds. Here are some popular ones:

Some of them offer free trials so that may suit your need if you just need to do one (or few files).
