Outlook Premium vs Light

These features are not available in the Light version of Webmail, but are available in the Full version:

  • Recover Deleted Items
  • Public Folders
  • Creating / editing distribution lists
  • Event reminders
  • Composing HTML Messages (with colors, bold, etc.)
  • Rules, Tasks, Notes
  • The Tasks module
  • Task specific properties: Only the text of the task items can be read through OWA Light.
  • Reminders
  • HTML composing of messages: OWA Light users get only plain text textboxes with no editing or formatting options.
  • Flags and Categories
  • Weekly view in Calendar: OWA Light shows the daily view only.
  • Free/Busy grid in Appointment/Meeting Scheduling Assistant: OWA Light users get only "Suggested Times".

Outlook Web Access is stuck in the "light" version, even though I have not chosen it.

Outlook Web Access (OWA) in its full version runs only on Internet Explorer version 6 or higher.  All other web browsers will have the checkbox for the "light" version checked and grayed out when you login.  The light version has several limitations including immediate access to all folders in the mailbox without a drop-down menu and no access to attach to an additional mailbox.  Some have discovered that though they are logging in with Internet Explorer and have not checked the "light" box, they still get the OWA Light experience. In this case, click on Options, then on Accessibility on the left, then uncheck the "Use the blind and low vision experience" checkbox. Click Save above. The next time you login, OWA will have additional options.
