Panopto
What is Panopto?
Panopto It allows users to upload, edit, store and share video with the public, within the institution, within their department, or keep it completely private. Panopto can be a very powerful tool in how and who we share our video content with. In the next few years, Panopto will replace other video services such as MiddMedia and Muskrat.
This page is meant to briefly answer a few questions about Panopto and we have links to all the support offered on the Panopto website.
Do I have a Panopto Account?
Yes. As of December 1, 2016, all members of the Middlebury College students, faculty and staff have accounts.
How do I log into my account?
Go to https://midd.hosted.panopto.com This will take you to the Middlebury College Panopto Home page. You will see a variety of public videos that other people have shared. Click the Sign-in button at the top on the right. Choose Middlebury Single Sign-in. Enter your Middlebury College credentials (email address and password). You will then be at your personal home page. You will see any videos that have been shared with you or that you have uploaded.
How does Panopto work?
Panopto works very similar to other video servers we have used in the past, such as MiddMedia and Vimeo, etc. Review the Quick Start items below. If there anything you cannot find a tutorial on or an answer to, submit a support ticket.

Using Panopto for a Course
Head to the Course Hub and add aPanopto Resource. This will create a Panopto folder for your course section and create groups for both instructors and students. By default instructors will be able to add videos and students view videos.
If needed, grant the student group permission to create videos from within Panopto.
Sharing a Panopto folder with multiple Course sections
If multiple course sections need access to the same Panopto folder, a "Panopto Resource" should be created for one section first. Then a second (and third, etc) "Panopto Resource" can be added to each of the additional sections, associating them with the existing folder by copy/pasting the folder ID into the form as shown in this screen-shot.

Creating Captions
Our license covers a limited amount of captions, as a way to reduce costs. Priority is given to captioning for students with disabilities or for courses where captioning is essential to the coursework such as language courses. These are addressed on a first-come, first-serve basis, as long as funds are available. Towards the end of the license period, if we have unspent captioning funds, we can purchase captions for other, non-course-related videos, also on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Please submit your request by June 14th using this link to a Media Services ticket form.
If your group has available funds to cover the cost of captioning, we’d be glad to help obtain the captions. The cost ranges from $1-$2.6 depending on which service we use and how quickly the captions are needed.
