Printing to Public Printers

We recommend that you save your documents in your OneDrive or Google Drive cloud storage where they can be easily accessed by any networked computer on campus.

Choosing the Library_Printers or Non_Library_Printers print queues on our Papercut server allows you to go to any participating print release station to release your print job(s)!

Option 1 - Print from a lab or public computer

  1. Log in to a college computer in the library or any of our public computer labs. Be sure to use your own Middlebury username and password - if someone else was using the computer before you and forgot to logout, log them out first!
  2. Access and open your document from the cloud, from your USB drive, or wherever you stored it.
  3. Print your document. In most programs, you can do this by going to File -> Print or by pressing the appropriate shortcut keys.
    • Specify which pages you want to print, then choose Library_Printers or Non_Library_Printers from the drop-down list.
      (Note: For Windows users, queue names are followed by on papercut.)
    • Choosing another printer is possible but these two queues give you the greatest flexibility as you can release your print job from any associated release station.
  4. Proceed to a Print Release Station associated with your printer selection. (After 24 hours have elapsed your print job will be erased from the system.)
  5. Log into the Print Release Station on or near the printer using your Middlebury username and password.
  6. Release your print job by selecting “Print”.

Option 2 - Print from your own computer using Mobility Print

Mobility Print enables you to install print queues on your personally-owned computer through a one-time process, then print directly from your applications using File/Print thereafter. Unlike with WebPrint, you’ll be able to print in a variety of ways -- specific pages, single- or double-sided, color or black and white -- all without the need to upload your files.

Visit http://go/mobileprint/ for instructions on how to set up printers on macOS and Windows computers, then say "goodbye" to Web Print.

Important notes:

  • Mobility Print is not intended for use on college-owned computers as these can already connect easily to networked printers. Refer to http://go/print?win/ or http://go/print?mac/ for details.
  • ITS does not currently support Mobility Print from iOS, Android, Chrome OS, or Linux.

Option 3 - Print from your own computer using Web Print

The Web Print service is still available but we recommend you try Mobility Print instead (see option 2).

Web Print allows you to print from your own computer to our public printers, but it requires that you upload your files. This method is often slower, especially at busy times when many jobs are submitted, and it does not allow you to select any print options such as single-sided printing. All print jobs processed through Web Print are duplexed. See Web Print for instructions.

Where can I release my print jobs?

Please conserve resources!

You can reduce the environmental impact of printing your papers by following some simple recommendations:

  • Use Print Preview (under the File menu) to see how your document looks before printing.
  • Always print double-sided. This is the default on Middlebury College’s printers.
  • Don’t print e-reserve or other web source material unless truly necessary. Instead of printing the entire document, take notes while reading it on the computer to help you remember important points.
  • When printing a draft, print multiple pages on one sheet. This can be surprisingly readable at 2-4 pages per sheet. It becomes a tremendous paper-saving technique when combined with double-sided printing!
  • Please print one copy only of your documents and use the copy machines to generate additional copies, if needed.
