Why get a webcam?

Webcams can be used with Skype, Polycom, iChat, WebEx and other collaboration software.

Consider the following before getting a new webcam

  • Most Mac computers distributed by the College come with an excellent built-in webcam.
  • Dell E6400, E6420 and later computers distributed by the College also have an excellent built-in webcam.
  • The Circulation desk offers webcams for loan.

Recommended webcam for individuals and small meeting rooms

If you'd still like to purchase a webcam, we recommend the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C930 (Amazon link, feel free to try your favorite store instead). The Logitech C930 does not require driver installation - it's plug-and-play with both Macs and PCs. It is also affordable, comes with two built-in microphones and supports HD video. The camera shoots in a 16:9 (widescreen) format so it offers a wide angle view. Feel free to browse your favorite store for other webcam options. Most well-rated webcams work fine with laptops and desktops, but check the manufacturer page for details.

The camera above works best for individuals or small meeting rooms (up to 6).
