This page outlines the unique elements in cataloging both cassettes and CD's, including special instructions for MP3 audio files. Location Notes ==== 


Location Details

Default location is Circ Desk. Non musical recordings can be classed in LC and shelved in the circulating stacks in an exterior slipcase. CDs going to stacks should be accompanied by a green location flag and a blue bindery slip to trigger creation of exterior case.

Special Guidelines for CDs Consisting of MP3 Files

Catalog these CDs as sound recordings with electronic resource attributes: i.e., use sound recording record type i and 245 $h [sound recording] rather than [electronic resource]. Follow the guidelines for sound recordings given above, with the following additions:

  • 008 s {form of item=electronic}
  • 006 m {type of material=computer files} h {type of file=sound}
  • 007 c {category=electronic resource} o {SMD=optical} n{color=not applicable} g{dimensions=4 3/4 in.} a {sound}
  • 500 Compact disc (MP3 format).
  • 538 System requirements: CD/MP3 player or computer with MP3-capable software.

Optional 300 field: 1 sound disc : digital, MP3 (or MP3 file) ; 4 3/4 in.
