The following instructions describe how to play Portal via the Steam Online Gaming Platform.

  • The computers in the Viewing Room (Axinn 016) do not meet the system requirements that are necessary to play Portal so please use the two computers in the Advanced Edit Suite (Axinn 014). Your ID keycards will grant you access to this room.
  • Log in to the computer using your Middlebury username and password.
  • Browse to the Applications Folder and launch steam. Macintosh HD->Applications->Steam. I have not added Steam to the dock yet, but you can right click on it once it has launched and choose "Keep in Dock" which will keep it in the dock for your user account.
Macintosh HD->Applications->Steam.
  • At the Steam login screen enter ss0378001pc1 if you are sitting at the computer that is straight ahead when you walk in the door or ss0378001pc2 if you are sitting at the computer to the right when you walk in the door. Enter the password that has been emailed to you. Check "Remember my password" and click "login".
  • The Library->Games section of your account should open up. Browse to Portal in the list of games. If this is your first time playing you will need to click on the "Install" button, otherwise click on the "Play" Button.
  • Choose "New Game" if it's your first time playing or "Load Game" if you are resuming a game that has been saved. Note that save game data is stored locally so you must use the same computer.
