Troubleshooting Fonts on Macs
- Problem: Installed fonts do not appear in Font menu. For example the Bembo font has been installed (install instructions here: http://kb.iu.edu/data/aklg.html), however the customer does not see it under the font list in some or all applications.
- Cause: There may be duplicate copies of the font.
- Solution 1: Quit all open apps (except the finder), then open: Applications => Font Book, select the font that has issues, then from the "Edit" menu select "Resolve Duplicates". Keep doing that until the dot next to the font name disappears. When the dot next to the font name has disappeared, quit Font Book and try using the font.
- Solution 2: If the above doesn't resolve the issue, try validating all fonts: In Font Book click "Edit" => "Select All", then click "File" => "Validate Fonts". If there are any errors or warnings, place a checkmark next to each and click "Remove Selected". You may need to restart the computer to apply the changes.
