There are two options for Windows users.
- A more persistent connection configured via Control Panel,which is explained first. This option creates a folder on your start menu with all the application shortcuts in it. You can then put a shortcut on your taskbar for easy access.
- Access via Web Browser. This option is useful for shared computers or connecting via home computer once you have connected to the VPN. You don’t need to install anything. This option is explained second.
RDS Cluster (first time) setup on Win 7 Via Control Panel
- Click on the "RemoteApp and Desktop Connections" link in Control Panel.
- Click on "Set up a new connection with RemoteApp and Desktop Connections" from the left pane.
- For the URL enter:
- Enter your middlebury username and password. If you check the “Remember my credentials” box, you will see fewer prompts to login to some apps when you launch them the first time. Click on .
- This will create a folder named “Middlebury College Remote Resources” under “All Programs – RemoteApp and Desktop Connections” in your Start menu. It will show all the icons you have access to. You can now launch any of the programs you have access to from this folder. Note: If you have used the Web Browser connection, you will notice that there are no folders organizing some of the icons in this version. Unlike the Web Browser connection, this connection will show all the icons in one list.

Creating a Shortcut for Use in Windows Explorer
- Click on Start - All Programs - RemoteApp and Desktop Connections.
- Right-Click on Middlebury College Remote Resources and select include in library - Create new library.
Windows Explorer should open with the new library created. You can now launch an app from Windows Explorer.
Creating a Shortcut on your Taskbar
- Follow the instructions above for Creating a Shortcut for Use in Windows Explorer. This is the fastest way to then create a taskbar shortcut.
- Right-click on your taskbar and select Toolbars - New toolbar.
- Expand your Middlebury College Remote Resources Library so you have the Middlebury College Remote Resources folder selected, and click on
- You should now see the toolbar on your taskbar. Click on the >> to expand and select an application to run.
RDS Cluster connection using a Web Browser
- Use go/rds or point your favorite web browser to https://middrds.middlebury.edu/RDWeb. Internet Explorer works best but any current browser should work.
- You should see a screen like the one above. Type in your credentials and click on the “Sign in” button. Note: You need to use midd\ before your username.
- You will see a new screen like the one below. It will show folders and icons for Applications you have access to.
- If you click on an icon you may get different results depending on the browser you are using. You may need to save the .rdp file, then go to your default save location and double-click on it to launch the file. In Internet Explorer, you will most likely see a popup at the bottom of your screen like the picture below. You can click on "open" to launch the application, or you can "save" it and use the .rdp file to launch the app whenever you want. - If you click on a folder (The Office 2010 Folder in this example), you will be presented with a new screen of icons.
