What is VPN?

Active faculty, staff and students can use a tool called VPN to access resources on the Middlebury network that are normally unavailable from off-campus. For example, anyone needing to use Banner INB from an off-campus location would need to first establish a VPN connection, as described below. VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, see the VPN Wikipedia article for more general info. Note that the VPN tool used by Middlebury College only routes traffic to and from Middlebury College servers - the rest of your Internet activities (e.g. visiting http://www.cnn.com) is not routed through the VPN.
