Media literacy is the idea that in our technologically advanced society, we must teach how to be literate in media other than the written word. Literacy, in this context, is the ability to understand and participate in the use of new media. Henry Jenkins argues that being literate in new media landscapes teaches skills such as play, performance, appropriation, multitasking, distributed cognition, collective intelligence, judgment, transmedia navigation, networking, and negotiation.
