Social Software are programs which promote the communication of people within a society through the computer. Through the use of these programs, many proponents of Social Software claim the ability to form meaningful social ties through computer mediated interaction. These interactions then can develop into online, or internet, communities. Examples of Social Software are internet discussion forums, blogs, instant messaging (AOL Instant Messenger), or even wikis.
