Synergy is based around the idea that because today's media is conglomerated, they are able to take one media franchise and apply it to other media industries. By fitting similar content to various media, synergy creates a trans-media or multi-media experience which may or may not reach a broader range of fan types. This may result in potential economic gain for media industries. An example of synergy can be found in the trans-media storytelling devices of the Matrix, which include the films, games, comics, animations, etc.
