YouTube
YouTube is a website which promotes sharing of videos via the internet. The website was the brainchild of three former Pay-Pal employees and was purchased by Google for an astonishing 1.65 billion dollars in 2006 [1]. Non-registered members have the ability to view a plethora of videos, covering essentially every subject imaginable. Registered members (registration is free) have the ability to upload their own videos and make them available to the public. In this way, people have the ability to gain viewership on a consistent basis with homemade series posted on YouTube. These series range from video blogs to machinima. The site is also dynamic in that it has a rating system for all its videos as well as the ability to comment on videos. In this way, YouTube has certain similar functions to blogs and is fully encapsulated in the idea of the Web 2.0.
