Shared Drives

Currently we have 3 virtual shared drives designated as the: Green Drive, Blue Drive, and Yellow Drive.

These drives are actually folders physically located on three different computers within the DMC and are accessible from the docks of any of the Computers within the Digital Media Commons.

Below are the Physical Locations of Networked Drives:

Green Drive

Blue Drive

Yellow Drive

Unfortunately because of the way new accounts are created the root folder names are designated by the original name of the account and cannot be changed even when the name of the account is changed.  This is why there is not complete uniformity among folder names, and names of some folders may not make sense.  To correct this issue, the current DMC Guest Accounts would need to be deleted and new accounts with the same name would then be created.

Currently connection to these drives is actually semi-automatic: Connection to a folder is created once a user clicks on one of the folders in the dock and then the user is automatically logged in via keychain into the computer where the folder is physically located. There will likely be a slight delay after which a drive will appear on the desktop. After this the folders on the dock and on the desktop will be accessible for the remainder of the login session. Currently the drives which come up on the desktop have the titles, "OGuest, Video-2, and Green Drive." These first two need to be changed in the future to avoid confusion and keep things clean.
