Dear Senator Barack Obama,

Congratulations on becoming the 44th President of the United States. I am anticipating your smooth transition into the White House on the 20th of January this coming year. Overcoming the many racial, political, and individual obstacles was certainly challenging, but you will have many more to face in the coming months. However, you also have the opportunity to send your country in the right direction to change America’s fate, and help the country become economically stable, and repair the international relationships with other countries.

You have already shown that you have identified this country's key issues by working with President George Bush to tackle the economic crisis before you even get into office. Restoring the economy will also be one of your primary focuses at the beginning of your administration. Global warming is an international epidemic that is destroying our planet. As more carbon dioxide is emitted each year, the planet warms up, melting glaciers, altering weather patterns, and eventually negatively affecting our daily lives. The United States is currently the second leading country in carbon emissions. It is an irreversible effect that alters many regions, making it more difficult for people to do what they enjoy in their regions. For example, if the planet continues to warm up, within years will Mountains and ski resorts not be able to retain the snow for skiers to ski on. And agriculture will change due to the alteration in weather patterns.

I support and respect your plan to focus on the economic crisis. If implemented correctly, your economic strategies could also help fight global warming. Your idea of investing and loaning out governmental funds to companies allow you to tackle two different situations. By giving out these loans, companies have a little bit of a backbone, and room to work on new technologies that are environmentally friendly. It should be mandatory and expected of companies to produce new technologies that will drive the world we live in today to a cleaner energy future. Companies should produce environmentally friendly products, or use them if the company does not produce them. This not only is a step towards saving our planet, but it allows an opportunity for new “green jobs” that had been promised. This action not only helps our planet in the long run, but will help revive our economy. I believe that there should be subsidies and tax breaks for those individuals and companies that choose to not emit anymore carbon dioxide by installing new technologies that help our environment become cleaner. For example, they could harness the power of solar energy with panels or hydropower to power their company. Any way that does not emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This does encourage more companies to leave less of a carbon footprint on the planet.

I do hope that the global warming issue is one of your top priorities. This issue is destroying our planet, and my generation (and many more to come) will be the one which suffers the effects. I trust that you will make some excellent decisions in the future that will change the course of America’s history.

								Sincerely,
                                                                      Hai Tat
