Dear Senator Barack Obama,

Congratulations on becoming the 44th President of the United States. I will be anticipating your smooth transition into the White House on the 20th of January this coming year. Becoming elected, and overcoming the many racial, political, and individual obstacles throughout these past couple of years was challenging. That’s only half the work. You sir, now have the power to change America’s fate, and help the country get back on its knee’s.

Already, do you begin to show love and devotion to this country by working with President George Bush to tackle the economic crisis before you even get into office. Restoring the economy will be one of your primary focuses during the beginning of your administration. As you may already know, Global Warming is a national epidemic that is destroying our planet. The United States is second largest country in carbon emissions. As more Carbon Dioxide is emitted each year, the planet warms up, melting glaciers, altering weather patterns, which set an “avalanche” effect on our daily lives. It is an irreversibly effect that alters many regions, making it difficult for citizens to do what they enjoy.

I support and respect your plan to focus on the economic crisis. To help us get back into the right direction, the economy needs to be improved. Your idea of investing/ loaning governmental funds to companies such as Ford does allow you to tackle two different situations. By giving out these loans, companies have a little bit of a backbone, and room to work on new technologies that are environmentally friendly. It should be mandatory and expected of companies to produce environmentally friendly products, or use them if the company does not produce them. This not only is a step towards saving our planet, but it allows an opportunity for new “green jobs” that had been promised. I also believe that there should be subsidies and tax breaks for those individuals and companies that choose to “go green”. This does encourage more citizens to leave less of a carbon footprint on the planet.

I do hope that the Global Warming issue is one of your top priorities. This issue is destroying our planet, and my generation will be the one which suffers. I trust that you will make some excellent decisions in the future that will change the course of America’s history.

Sincerely,

Hai Tat
