Russia has long been the largest country in the world. Note, however, how some of Russia’s most important cities and regions (for example, Vladivostok and Kazakhstan, were still not part of the Empire in 1820. Central Asia would be incorporated into the country between 1824 and 1895, while the southern Pacific coast would become part of Russia around 1860.
