The NExpress consortia is ending. We will be closing up NExpress ordering at the end of this Spring semester. April 30th, 2017 will be the last day to order new NExpress items. All Nexpress items will be due back by May 15th, 2017.
Worldcat and ILLiad will remain as ILL searching and ordering options. Any questions: please contact Rachel Manning at x5498. You will still be able to borrow items from NExpress schools by submitting requests through ILL. If the item is owned by a former NExpress library, we will do our best to expedite the request.
Until the end of April use the NExpress catalog (by clicking on the NExpress logo displayed in to order items not currently available at Middlebury. Items ordered from NExpress should arrive in 3-4 days. You will also be able to renew your NExpress materials three times, a service currently unavailable for traditional ILL material. If not available in NExpress, loan requests will need to be ordered through the ILLiad system.
As of June 2010, NExpress will provide loan materials only. All articles must be submitted to ILLiad. We are now using RapidILL within ILLiad as an alternative to NExpress for articles. Requests must have an ISSN in order to be processed by RapidILL. Including the ISSN when submitting an article request in ILLiad increases our ability to process the request quickly.
Note: NExpress cannot provide access to ebooks or to other libraries' electronic databases.
What is NExpress?
NExpress is a consortium of libraries in New England: Bates College, Bowdoin College, Colby College, Middlebury College, Wellesley College, and Williams College.
Our libraries have created a combined catalog of our collections. Authorized users may borrow other member libraries' materials by requesting them online in the NExpress Catalog and have them delivered to Middlebury for pickup. You may also use your Middlebury ID to check out items directly from any of the NExpress Libraries.
How to Request a Loan from NExpress
From your Midcat search results, clicking on the NExpress icon search in the NExpress multi-library catalog.
When you locate an item you would like to borrow:
- Click on the "Request this item" link.
- Identify yourself as a Middlebury patron in the drop-down menu.
- Enter your name and ID number.
- Click the "Submit" button.
- Watch for the notice indicating that your request has been submitted successfully.
- Check the status of your request at anytime using My MidCat. go/mymidcat
- NExpress requests must be picked up in person at the Davis Family Library or Armstrong Library. During the summer, Davison Library at Bread Loaf is also a valid pickup location.
While items available at Middlebury cannot be ordered in NExpress, placing a NExpress request for missing or checked out books can be very effective. An item ordered through NExpress will often arrive before a recalled Middlebury book.
If a Middlebury book is missing please notify Circulation staff and request it be marked missing in MIDCAT. You will then be able to order the item from NExpress.
Loan requests unfilled by NExpress will be cancelled automatically. If you still need the material and you can wait for ILL delivery, please create a new Interlibrary Loan request for the item in ILLiad.
