FAQ

Resizing or dragging a window in Banner is really slow. How can I fix this?

Description: When dragging a window in INB Banner the dragging takes a long time (there's a long delay between the time when you drag and the time when the window moves to the dragged position). The same thing happens when you try to resize a window in banner. This happens with pop-out windows in banner. The issue has been seen on an optiplex 755 with ATI Radeon 2400XT with the latest driver from ATI (2/21/2010). The same happened with older drivers and dell's driver.

Solution: Disable hardware acceleration and write combining:

  1. Click on the Start menu => Control Panel => Displays => Settings => Advanced => Troubleshoot tab.
  2. Drag the slider to None (all the way to the left).
  3. Uncheck "Enable write combining".
  4. Click OK.

Note: There is a firmware update (not a driver) from Dell for this model (755, ati radeon 2400xt) but we did not apply it, as customers have been happy with the above fix. The firmware is cumbersome and a little risky. Among other requirements, the firmware patch requires to be burned to a cd and boot from the cd.
